What is a Laser Hair Removal?

A laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure that specializes in the removal of unwanted hair. Laser hair removal utilizes beams of highly concentrated light to selectively penetrate into the hair follicles to eliminate the hair from within. Most patients need between 2 to 6 treatments to fully maximize the removal. When the hair regrows, most patients see noticeably less hair than before. Each subsequent treatment will make the regrown hair thinner, finer, and lighter in color. Keep in mind that the lasers are designed for hair removal on most parts of the body such as:

  • Back
  • Bikini Area
  • Chest
  • Face (Especially Upper Lip/Chin)
  • Neck
  • Shoulders

Why choose Laser Hair Removal?

Laser Hair Removals are FDA cleared for permanent hair reduction, which means reduction over time. After a series of sessions, the unwanted hairs on your body will be completely eliminated. Keep in mind, the number of sessions vary from person to person as well as how long the hair will remain gone.

How does the laser Hair Removal work?

One of the most mind-boggling question is how exactly does laser beams help remove our hairs? It’s actually quite simple, during the laser hair removal, the laser beam’s precisely passes through the skin and targets each individual hair follicle. The intense heat from the laser beam will eliminate the follicles which will help prevent future hair growth without harming the patient’s skin. However, keep in mind that to achieve this, several laser treatments are required to gain the full effects of laser hair removal.

What to Expect during the Laser Hair Removal?

There have been some concerning questions about what to expect right before you enter into the medical room. Like any procedure, there will be a series of preparations needed before the actual treatment. Just before the procedure, the selected area that will undergo the laser removal will be trimmed down above the skin’s surface. The laser equipment will be adjusted according to the color, thickness, and location of your hair to accurately eliminate the unwanted hair. When the laser is activated, the laser beam will pass through your skin to the tiny follicles where hair growth originates. The intense heat from the laser will eliminate the hair follicles. During this time, there may be some discomfort in the skin, which will be alleviated with the cooling gel.

How long is the Laser Hair Removal Session?

We understand that many of you have a busy schedule and would like to be in and out as soon as possible. However, the length of time of the treatment is entirely up to you. The treatment time can vary considerably depending on the size of the area treated and the specific technique used. A small area such as the upper lip may take only five minutes, whereas a larger area like the back or legs may take up to an hour.

What to Expect after the Laser Hair Removal?

So now you’re finally done with the treatment, what happens next? After the procedure, you might notice redness and swelling for the first few hours. To reduce any form of discomfort, apply ice to the treated area. Other suggestions may include using a cold washcloth to help reduce redness and accelerate recovery time. To do this add water to a bowl of ice, soak a washcloth in it, ring out the cloth, and finally apply the cold cloth on treated area. Continue to repeat these steps to aid discomfort and redness.

Most importantly, avoid sun exposure, as the ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun will damage the treated area. When your skin has fully recovered, it is also very important to use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 whenever you’re in the sun.

What are the Results?

Finally what are we looking at? How big of a difference will I see? These are common questions patients typically would ask themselves prior to a laser hair removal session. Now, keep in mind that the results of laser hair removal vary greatly from person to person, and may depend on which area of the body or face is treated. With that said, your skin may feel a bit itchy and irritated for about 24 hours after your laser hair removal.
